LAMBDA CHAPTER DELTA KAPPA GAMMA
Lambda Chapter met March 5, 2018 for their monthly meeting at Rancher’s Steakhouse in Hobbs. Attending the meeting were Anne Chaffin, Linda Luker, Maribel Martinez, Cathy Studley, Mary Jean Reese, and visitor Melida Canales.
President Cathy Studley called the meeting to order. Mary Jean moved to approve the minutes, Anne seconded the motion, minutes were approved.
The treasurer reported that we have had $82 dues paid this month and paid out $250 for the Grant-in-Aide for Emily Miller. Maribel moved to accept the report, Anne seconded. The treasurer’s report will be filed.
The 2019 Convention was discussed. Maribel reported that the new Hilton Gardens is the most reasonable. They will hold 30 rooms. She will check in with them again on prices and room guarantee. We will try Maribel’s caterer at the meeting in April at her house. We can possibly do a box lunch for evening or lunch on Saturday.
Elections were held for officers for the next biennium. New officers will be: Maribel Martinez- President, Anne Chaffin-Vice President, Cathy Jones-Secretary, Mary Jean Reese-Treasurer, Perri Hathorn-Parliamentarian.
Cathy Maxwell contacted members about contributing a gift basket to use as fund raiser at the convention. We chose Movie Night, Gardening, or Notes and Stationery. We will decide at the next meeting and prepare the basket.
Mary Jean presented a program updating the Hahn’s Uganda Mission. Cathy Studley provided materials and descriptions of the Quantum Learning system that teachers in Eunice are using.
Next meeting will be at Maribel’s house on April 2.
Cathy adjourned the meeting.

The 2019 Convention was discussed. The Date of April 26-28, 2019 was set. Several places of interest were discussed (Center for the Arts, Western Heritage Museum and The Hilton Gardens) Maribel Martinez will check on the use and price of using the Hilton Gardens. Meals were discussed and the use of a red rose for us to wear.
The members were given a nomination list, which will be voted on at the next meeting.
Next meeting will be at Ranchers in Hobbs March 5, 2018.

Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met March 7 at Linda Cauthen's Music Studio in Lovington.
Ms. Cauthen's musical group, The Lovington Connection Show Choir, performed a selection of their song and dance combinations for DKG that they will be presenting for NMJC Sunday afternoon at the Lea County Music Forum Festival.
Lovington Connection Show Choir will compete in the Lone Star Music Showcase in Dallas, TX, on April 23.
Branson, MO, will be their finale this school year on May 24 and 25, as opening acts for "Branson On-Stage Live". in two different theaters.
Lovington Connection Show Choir consists of seven students in grades 4-7 who are singers and dancers similar to the talented performers on the TV show "Glee."
President Anne Chaffin called the meeting to order with Longfellow's challenge, "Act, that each tomorrow finds us farther than today."
Minutes were approved, and Mary Jean Reese reported $2,297.50 in our treasury.
Members updated their biographical information and voted on new officers. Cathy Studley will be the new president, Anne Chaffin will be vice president, and LaVerne Chaffin will be secretary. They will be installed at next month's meeting on April 2, at First Baptist Church in Eunice.
2016 Theta State Convention will be held in Grants April 29 and 30. Four members plan to attend. International Convention will be in Nashville, TN,July 5-9.

Lambda Chapter Theta State Delta Kappa Gamma January 4, 2016
On the evening of January 4, 2016, Lambda chapter held their first meeting of the year in the home of Mary Jean Reese. Anne Chaffin, Maribel Martinez, Cathy Jones, Cathy Studley, Mary Jean Reese, and LaVerne Chaffin enjoyed loaded baked potatoes, green salad, and dessert prepared by the Eunice hostesses.
After dinner, President Anne Chaffin called the meeting to order. Her challenge was "Always shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."
The minutes for November were approved as printed on the website.
Treasurer, Mary Jean Reese, presented her report. There is $2,297.29 for chapter use. The report was approved as printed.
Mary Jean read a letter from DeAlva Blocker. She sent mementoes from her years in DKG. After the program,each member present chose something from the mementoes.
Emily Ogden-miller was accepted as the recipient for our Grants-in-Aid. She is enrolled at NMJC.
Nadyne Gartman still wants articles and pictures for the Lambda website.
The next meeting will be at Anne Chaffin's home in Hobbs.
The program was completing the yearly reports. They will be sent to the state and international headquarters byJanuary31,

Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at Rancher's Steakhouse in Hobbs.
President Anne Chaffin called the meeting to order. Minutes were approved as printed. The Treasurer listed $2,255.06 on hand for Chapter use.
Grant-in-Aid tuition will be set for 2nd semester.
Alpha Lambda will host the joint meeting in December.
Greg Maxie, Southeast Uniserve Director for NEA-NM, and Lovington School Board member, informed DKG about the condition of the 26 school districts that he covers. Although NEA is aggravated by the excessive testing of students, hope is on the horizon for some relief.
NM college students aren't graduating with teaching degrees in very high numbers anymore. Four hundred teachers in the SE District are on waivers. NEA is working diligently to improve the conditions in schools.
On a bright note, the NM Teacher Retirement System is in excellent condition.

Donations for Don Reese's memorial were put in the Grants and Aids fund.
Early Career Education workshops will be held Oct 24 at Hobbs High School in the Home Economics area. Go in the front door on Jefferson St to the office area, not the Commons.
Teachers of any grade level in their first three years are invited to come and enjoy classes geared for questions and answers in a learning environment set with their comfort in mind.
Last year's classes and discussion groups were a success, so we're treating new teachers to another one!
Kay Hannum, Theta State Parliamentarian and Alpha Lambda member, spoke about the DKG International Convention in Kansas that was held in July.
The Flag Cermony's pomp and beauty of presentations celebrating DKG Chapters all over the world showcased fabulous native costumes worn by members from Japan, Hawaii, Guatamala, and on and on. Workshops galore were presented.
Celebrating Educational Excellence held a presentation on "Bullying Beyond the Schoolyard" which is unfortunately a necessary class for students today. Cyber bullying is a crime that can be punished if the recipient of the bullying text will not delete it until authorities see it, but students must not respond to the bad message themselves.
Parents need to supervise their children's computer messages, and a great idea would be to remove the computer from the kids' rooms and let them work on their homework in your presence.
Nashville, TN, will host the 2016 DKG International Convention.

Delta Kappa Gamma chapters Alpha Lambda and Lambda met at 1st Christian Church in Hobbs for a joint meeting on May 2.
Mary Jean Reeves and LaVerne Chaffin presented a skit portaying an interview with Annie Webb Blanton, founder of DKG in 1929 in Austin, TX.
Theta State President Sheri Williams addressed the group about the state convention. A special attendee at the convention was Dr. Lyn Babb Schmid, DKG International President. She congratulated members on their accomplishments in NM and encouraged them to continue making progress in educational organizations.
Door prizes were presented to Alpha Lambda from host chapter Lambda.

Minutes were approved as read, and the treasurer's report listed $2,724.22 for chapter use.
For new business Maribel Martinez requested funds for a "duck house" to be installed on the Green Meadow Lake. The request was approved for a donation of $200 for building the duck sanctuary.
Plans for the joint meeting with Alpha Lambda were finalized. Mary Jean will be responsible for entertainment, coffee, juice, and paper goods. Members will bring three brunch items apiece. Door prizes will be purchased from our fund.
President Anne will request the presence of Theta State President Sheri Williams.
May 2 is the tentative date planned for the meting at First Christian Church in Hobbs.
Donations of canned food to Isaiah's Kitchen will be given.

In New Business, CIPD (Cornenet Individual Professional Development Awards), which are granted three times a year, funds up to $2,000 for an outstanding professional development opportunity unrelated to the society and available to members, non-members, women and men educators. It is a one-time grant.
Southwest Regional will be July 22-25 in Wichita, Kansas.
